What this tool does
GIF and PNG store pixels differently, so the image is decoded and redrawn rather than relabelled. That is what makes the output a real PNG file.
Animated GIF is read as its first frame. The 256-colour source palette is already baked in. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, at the cost of a larger file. The conversion is deterministic and local: the same input produces the same output without a server in the middle.
Questions people actually ask
Is PNG output really from my file?
Yes. The GIF is decoded in this tab and re-encoded as PNG; nothing is uploaded or fetched.
What changes in the conversion?
Animated GIF is read as its first frame. The 256-colour source palette is already baked in. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, at the cost of a larger file.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Drop as many as you like; each is converted independently and the ZIP button collects them.
Does resizing lose quality?
Downscaling discards pixels, so yes. Leave max width at 0 to keep the original dimensions.
