Base64 a string — both directions
Text to Base64 and back, with proper UTF-8 handling so emoji don't come out as confetti.
- 1Choose the direction
Encode turns text into Base64; Decode reverses it. Pick URL-safe if the result goes into a query string or filename.
- 2Paste the input
Unicode, emoji, accented names — all handled correctly. On decode, a data:image/—;base64, prefix is stripped automatically.
- 3Shape the output
Wrap at 76 characters for MIME-style text, or tick per-line to convert a list one value at a time.
Questions people actually ask
Why is Base64 longer than the original?
It needs about 33% more characters — that's the cost of representing any bytes with 64 safe symbols. It's encoding, not compression.
Can I wrap the output at 76 characters?
Yes — tick the wrap option. It is off by default so code, tokens and API keys stay as one copyable line.
Is Base64 encryption?
Emphatically no. It hides nothing from anyone who cares to look. Passwords and secrets belong in a password manager, not in Base64.
