URL encode and decode
Percent-encode the awkward characters in URLs, or unpack an encoded link so it's readable again.
- 1Paste a URL or fragment
A full link, a query value, or a path segment.
- 2Pick the mode
Component mode for values (spaces become %20 unless you choose form-style +); full-URL mode keeps :/?&= structure intact.
- 3Copy either direction
Decoding works on anything percent-encoded you feed it.
Questions people actually ask
encodeURIComponent or encodeURI?
Both, via the mode switch. The first for values you're assembling into a URL, the second for an entire URL you're passing along.
+ or %20 for spaces?
Both appear in the wild; %20 is the standard form. When decoding, both are understood. Flip the form-style toggle if you specifically need +.
Can I encode a list of values at once?
Yes — turn on —Treat each line separately—. Every line is converted on its own, so a pasted column of search terms or filenames stays a column.
Which characters are left alone?
Component mode keeps A—Z, a—z, 0—9 and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ). URL mode also keeps : / ? # & = ; , @ + $ so the link's structure survives. The page has the same reference under the mode switch.
