What this tool does

Each PDF page is rendered to a canvas at your chosen DPI and then encoded as BMP. Vector text and images are rasterised in the process, so the result is a picture of the page rather than a PDF object.

BMP output is uncompressed 24-bit RGB. Files are much larger than JPG or PNG, but compatibility is close to universal.

Questions people actually ask

What resolution should I use?

Screen (96 DPI) is fine for web previews. Standard (150 DPI) suits most documents. Print (300 DPI) is sharpest and slowest, with the largest files.

Is the BMP output lossless?

BMP output is uncompressed 24-bit RGB. Files are much larger than JPG or PNG, but compatibility is close to universal.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and rendered in this tab, and the images are created locally.
