    Drop a video

Trim to the good bit first - GIFs are heavy, so seconds, not minutes. The two handles and —Set start/end here— work while it plays, and the live budget shows the frame count.

  2. 2
    Set the feel

12—15 fps loops read as smooth. 320—480px wide is the useful size range.

The palette pass is done twice so the colours come out clean instead of muddy.

Questions people actually ask

Why do GIFs get so big?

It's a 1987 format with no real compression — every frame is a full picture. That's why the size settings matter here more than anywhere else on this site.

GIF or MP4 — which should I share?

Every platform since 2010 takes MP4, at a tenth of the size. GIF survives where videos autoplay silently (chat apps, forums), which is its one advantage.
