Generate v4 or v7 UUIDs
Random v4 for general use, time-ordered v7 for database keys — up to a thousand at a time, shaped for code or SQL.
- 1Pick a version
v4 is pure random. v7 starts with a timestamp, so newer IDs sort after older ones.
- 2Choose how many and how shaped
Up to 1,000, in lowercase or uppercase, with braces or without dashes.
- 3Copy the list
One per line, quoted, comma-separated, CSV with an id header, or a ready-made SQL INSERT.
Questions people actually ask
Are these actually random?
The random parts come from the browser's cryptographic generator — the same source used for encryption keys. v7's first 48 bits are the current millisecond instead.
Which version should I use?
v4 for general-purpose IDs. v7 for database keys where time-ordered inserts keep the index happy — it is still random enough that collisions are not a practical worry.
Could two ever collide?
For v4 you'd need to generate a billion UUIDs a second for decades to have a realistic chance. v7's timestamp makes same-millisecond collisions the only interesting case, and the random tail covers it.
